Providing a glossy soundtrack to draw out summer just that little bit longer, FOXE’s Honeytop is a force of jangly indie meets Balearic pop.
Their youthful energy overflows through simple rhythms and catchy choruses but there’s a surprising depth to the sound. Whilst cheeky lyrics perpetuate teenage cliches, they’re delivered with absolute conviction by charismatic guitarist George. Fairlight-esque backing vocals from bassist Antonica really distinguish the track and remind me of some of the production shimmer found on 80’s Prefab Sprout records.
The trio, completed by drummer Mat, formed in Guildford following their graduation from the Academy of Contemporary Music – a school that has had no shortage of successful musicians pass through their doors. Since then, FOXE have hit the ground running with a string of single releases, each with accompanying quirky music video (my favourite has got to be the puppetry on Spring!)
Their latest track Frequency is out on the 2nd October. You can also catch FOXE at their very own FOXE fest on the 21st October at the Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen as they’re joined five of their best band friends.
And just for the puppets…
